December 15, 2020
The second season of the renowned show is scheduled to air on South African TV screens early next year.
Shark Tank South Africa is funded and supported by a leading Pan-African investment company, Beryl Group.
Neverl Kambasha, Beryl Group Chairman explains why they have chosen to invest in entrepreneurship and the Shark Tank show.
“We have been investing in entrepreneurs for a significant amount of time. There’s no doubt that Africa is the next frontier, and with that, the driving force of changing the economic landscape on the continent will be entrepreneurs. The possibilities of unearthing innovation, creativity, and uncovering the ‘next big thing’ are endless hence we deemed it necessary to further invest in entrepreneurship. We look forward to seeing potential unleashed.
The new line-up of self-made multimillionaire and billionaire tycoons, called ‘Sharks’ will be hosts to the second season of the show and are responsible for finding investor-reading and scalable local businesses in South Africa and Africa.
Some of the possible ‘sharks’ who will facilitate the show include South African billionaire, Mr. Quinton van der Burgh; UN Global Award Honoree, Dr. Jasmine Pega; Serial Entrepreneur Mr. Lebo Gunguluza; and Tech-Entrepreneur and Guru, Ms. Prashanthi Akaloo.
The Shark Tank will provide local entrepreneurs with the once-in-a-life-time opportunity to chase their dreams and possibly secure a lucrative business. The new season of the show will focus on changing the narrative surrounding the African entrepreneur and forms part of Beryl Group’s investment strategy.
The show places a close lens on the most up-and-coming African entrepreneurs who have created a service, product, or invention that can be categorised as ‘ground-breaking’. During the show, participating entrepreneurs will be given the opportunity to pitch their business concept to the panel of ‘Sharks’, who may invest in their business and provide mentorship to the entrepreneur.
