SourceFin launches TenderCentral, a free platform for access to meet opportunity

South Africa’s small, medium and micro enterprises sit at the centre of the economy. They build infrastructure, supply goods, deliver services and create jobs in areas where formal employment remains limited. Yet for many of these businesses, access to funding and opportunity continues to be uneven.

Over the past five years, companies like Sourcefin have focused on closing that gap by deploying more than R2.6 billion to South African SMMEs across industries. The funding has enabled companies to execute contracts, manage cash flow and sustain operations in sectors critical to the broader economy. Funding, however, is only one part of the challenge.

Public sector tenders remain one of the most misunderstood components of South Africa’s business landscape. High-profile cases of abuse have shaped perceptions, but they do not reflect how most SMMEs engage with public procurement.

For many legitimate small businesses, tenders are a primary route to market. They offer predictable revenue, support job creation and enable service delivery in communities that rely heavily on public infrastructure and services. When properly structured and managed, tenders provide scale and credibility that few other channels can offer to growing enterprises.

“The term ‘tenderpreneur’ conjures images of excess,” says Joshua Kadish, CEO and co-founder of Sourcefin. “But the reality is far less glamorous. Most entrepreneurs operating in this space are focused on delivery, compliance and sustainability.”

Kadish argues that dismissing tenders outright undermines the very businesses public procurement is meant to support. “Tenders allow SMMEs to build track records, develop skills and create employment. Writing off the entire system does more harm than good.”

While funding remains a constraint, access to opportunity is often just as limiting. Tender information is fragmented across platforms, frequently outdated and in many cases, hidden behind paywalls that exclude smaller players.

TenderCentral, powered by Sourcefin, was developed to address this structural problem.

The platform consolidates verified tenders from national, provincial and municipal entities into a single interface, allowing users to search by sector and region, track deadlines and access documentation at no cost.

“Tender access has historically favoured those who already have scale or resources,” says Jordan Hertz, Sourcefin’s chief commercial officer. “TenderCentral is about removing friction and giving smaller businesses a fair view of what’s available.”

TenderCentral also feeds into a broader funding ecosystem designed around execution, as SMMEs regularly struggle to finance delivery. Long payment cycles, limited banking support and upfront cost requirements can quickly turn opportunity into risk.

Through purchase order funding and invoice discounting, Sourcefin enables SMMEs to deliver confirmed work without absorbing unsustainable cash flow pressure. The company also provides access to more than 2,000 globally vetted suppliers and sourcing specialists, supporting businesses from procurement through to delivery.

In this context, TenderCentral addresses visibility, while Sourcefin’s funding solutions address liquidity — two of the most persistent constraints facing SMMEs.

South Africa’s SMME funding environment is evolving, with increased collaboration between private lenders, fintechs, development finance institutions and government. Progress is visible, but gaps remain, particularly for businesses operating without reliable access to finance, data or market opportunities.

Sourcefin has confirmed that additional strategic partnerships are in development and will be announced in the new year. Alongside the continued expansion of TenderCentral as a free platform, these partnerships are expected to further strengthen support across the SMME ecosystem.

As the country looks to growth, the performance of its SMMEs will remain a decisive factor, and one that demands sustained, practical support rather than rhetoric.
