Mahlodi Legodi, a business leader to watch

It was during her time with Ogilvy South Africa, one of the world’s largest marketing communications networks that Mahlodi Legodi first received the title, “The Queen of PR”. The name was well deserved: she was skilled and experienced, focused, and driven, and had a network of people to help her bring her visions to life.


By the time Mahlodi opened her own business in 2017, calling it FR Communications just made sense. “FR stands for ‘Fellow Royals’,” she says. “Everyone we work with – our team members, consultants and clients – is part of our royal family of strategic thinkers and creatives, and together we deliver important, meaningful and award-winning work.”


Today, partnership is at the heart of FR Communications’ approach. “We work closely with our clients and with other major agencies, providing strategic counsel and support and filling any gaps that need to be filled,” Mahlodi explains. “Our outside perspective allows us to see things in a fresh light, but at the same time, we consider ourselves an integral and invested part of our clients’ teams. We’re real partners. We’re deeply involved.”


With Mahlodi at its helm, FR Communications cultivates long-term client relationships, and nurtures flexible working arrangements that are both cost and time efficient. The team prides itself on turning around projects in a fraction of the time required by larger, more cumbersome organisations, and on operating reliably and in keeping with its values and ethics.


Among FR Communications’ clients, Mahlodi counts such high-profile names as Wavemaker South Africa, the fifth largest media agency in the world, Hotel 2 Fevrier Lomé, Glencore South Africa and a leading international sanitaryware brand. FR Communications also worked closely with Hill+Knowlton Strategies, Nuecleo Consulting, and Network BBDO. Through these agencies, she has worked on brands that include Visa, Huawei, Siqalo Foods, African Bank, Revlon, and Lenovo.


But FR Communications is not where Mahlodi’s business endeavours begin and end. She also has other professional interests and was part of the 2020 Women Creating Wealth with Graça Machel Trust, an organisation that works to multiply the faces and amplify the voices of African women and children. Recently, Mahlodi was nominated as 2021 Top 10 Entrepreneur for the Accenture Rising Star Awards. With her adaptable, flexible, and solutions-driven attitude, Mahlodi is a force to be reckoned with and a business leader to watch.


Looking ahead, Mahlodi has dreams of venturing beyond South Africa’s borders and establishing a footprint across the continent. FR Communications is only the beginning.
